GWBL - 2025 - WEEK 2
Now that’s more like it. What a gutsy performance, what a win..….by the Patriots. A much needed win to break the Miami curse and save their young season. A win that staved off the Drake Maye haters, temporarily at least. (Crazy that Boston media is already turning on him.) Honestly that was one of the most entertaining Pats games, if not THE most entertaining Pats game in the post-TB12 era. Off the top of my head it’d be that game and the game where TB12 made his Foxborough return and Mac Jones *almost* outdueled him. Except that was a 17-19 loss and a game where I stayed up past midnight on a Sunday just to watch the Pats lose. That was also four years ago, October 2021. There have been some interesting games since then, but none that meant as much as this one. Especially given how those seasons ended. In a funny twist of fate, Mac Jones started and actually won a game this weekend. Time is a flat circle, or something like that….
For this week’s recaps I’m going to go back to an old staple – Fastest Three Minutes. My favorite installment from my favorite color commentator Chris Berman. A nice little piece of nostalgia that takes me back to the Bryant days: Sophomore year in Hall 2 on a Monday night. Watching Monday Night Football with Kev, Frader, Rob D and whoever happened to be around. Chris Berman going on and on about late career Brett Favre and early career TB12. TJ Houshmanzadeh led the NFL in receptions that year (112) and Berman used to have a field day with his last name. Adrian Peterson was running wild and Ladanian Tomlinson was in his prime. Back when things made a little more sense.
Anyway before we go down the rabbit hole I’ll get into it, enjoy:
Matchup 1: Brown ^ 2 (Keetz) vs. Oshkosh B’Gosh (Kev):
We travel to the beaches of Rhode Island for a race between former life guards. It was the Amonra St. Brown University Bears leading the way for Keetz with nearly 40 fantasy points on 9 catches, 115 yards and 3 TDs. That’s more points than Brown U’s football team has all season. In fairness, they haven’t played a game yet.
Chase Brown Brothers Harriman didn’t have quite as good a day for the former employee, rumbling, bumbling, but mostly stumbling to 11 fantasy points on 18 touches. Volume helps, but inefficiency doesn’t. WHOOOP
Malik moved into the Naberhood with Amonra, nearly matching him with 37.7 points of his own. The second year stud is proving that his rookie season was no fluke.
It was all for naught, as Omarion Hampton Beach has got nothing on Narragansett. It showed on Monday night football - that 5 point “performance” had Massholes bringing out their best accents and saying “FAHK YOU DOOD”.
Keetz 151.93, Kev 136.74
Matchup 2: Two Joe’s One Kupp (Tone) vs. I LOVE LAMB (Tieg):
Up next we saw Two Tone’s One Kupp take down Tieg, who definitely didn’t love this LAMB. Koopa Troopa Nacua invaded the Mushroom Kingdom and laid a smackdown on Tieg, putting up 28 fantasy points. One carry for 45 yards and a TD, from a wide receiver? You don’t see that often.
Chuba Hubba Hubbard made Tone say “hubba hubba” when he saw the box score – 15 touches, 77 yards, a TD and 21 fantasy points. That’s what she said?
Jordan Love Love Love Love Crazy Love was serenading Tieg on Thursday night with a strong 23 points to kick off the week. If he coulda hit a wide open Matthew Golden Arches it would have been a super sized game. Sadly for Tieg, his love missed the mark. Kenneth Walker Texas Ranger tried to roundhouse Tone in the face with a 21 point outburst, but it wasn’t enough to take home the W. BOOM BOOM BOPPP
Tone 147.49, Tieg 116.83
Matchup 3: GALSFLL LAMAR JACKSON (Lamone) defeats Deebo Baggins (Frader):
Our third matchup featured two 1-0 teams looking to make a statement early in the season. What we got was a pillow fight, but someone had to win. WHOOP.
She got a light-skinned friend lookin like Lamar Jackson continued to bring the noise, producing 4 TDs and 29 fantasy points against the Browns. The QB1 in fantasy has inspired team names and fantasy managers alike. Tetairoa McMillan launched the Tet Offensive against the unsuspecting Baggins this week, notching his first career 100 yard game.
Travis Hunter I Barely Know Her continued to disappoint for Frader, with a Ron measly 5 fantasy points. 55 yards in two games is not going to cut it and we have to wonder if Hunter will be a viable fantasy option splitting his time between offense and defense.
After a great week 1, Frader Drake Mayyeeee be a little nervous about his team right about now. While the Patriots’ franchise QB put up 32 fantasy points, the rest of the starting roster scored just 57.
Lamone 111.25, Frader 89.05
Matchup 4: Chase is On the Case (Ken) vs. King Henry’s Court (DMO):
We head down to Connecticut for Matchup #4 - Big Country against DMO. Chase Was on the Case this week, pawing his way to 36.5 points and the win. Jamar Chase is back to WR6 on the season, even with his Week 1 dud. The Paw Patrol was cooking this week, with each pup contributing 10 or more fantasy points (with some rounding). Speaking of cook….the King James Cook bible spread the good word and the fantasy points this week, putting up 30 of his own for Ken. Can I get an amen?
King Henry was more Court Jester than King in Week 2, putting up a startling 4.5 point performance for DMO. Rushing for 23 yards on 11 carries, looking like Ser Dontos Hollard in Game of Thrones. Joffrey’s Fool indeed (extra points if any of you remember that GOT character).
Alvin Chevy Kamara proved he’s still got some horsepower, scoring 20 points for DMO. Those receptions are a cheat code and remind me why DMO chose him for a keeper.
Ken 161.63, DMO 136.28
Matchup 5: Tom’s Retirement Tour (Commish) vs. She Wants the Young Caff (Dyl):
Our final matchup features former Southie roomates and current fantasy rivals in a rematch of the 2024 title game…
TeBucky Irving Jones continued to haunt my life this week, torching the Texans D to the tune of 21.5 points. I dropped Bucky Irving right before Week 1 last year and Dylan reaped the rewards. (F)Buck! Sadly it was all for naught as 15 points from his QB really Jalen Hurt Dylan’s chances of winning in Week 2.
Coach Jonathan Eric Taylor led the way for my team with a workhorse performance: 215 total yards, a TD and 34.5 fantasy points. Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose! Meanwhile the Devil Went Down to Georgia with the Jayden Charlie Daniels Band and put out a nice 22.6 fantasy points. Fire on the mountain, run boys run. (That was painful, I know.)
Commish 144.20, Dylan 114.14
