GWBL - WEEK 7

GWBL - WEEK 7

WEEK 7 – 2025 SEASON – GWBL

Welcome back for your weekly GWBL entertainment. As always we will start with a victory lap for the Patriots. It looked a litttttllle sketchy there in the first quarter when they were down 3-10 and the Titans were seemingly moving the ball at-will. But the defense tightened up, Drake buckled down and they ran away with the rest of the game. It’s likely that the Titans are the worst team in the NFL, bottom 3 at the very least. Still, a blowout win is a wonderful thing and that 5-2 record looks real nice Clark. (Not too early for Christmas Vacation quotes.)

Drake looks LOCKED in right now. The throw down the right sideline to Mack Hollins in the 2nd quarter was incredible. The coverage wasn’t bad, Drake just put the ball in the perfect spot right where the defender couldn’t reach it. Hollins made an easy the catch and it got them into the red zone. That was when it was still 3-10 and we were sweating a bit. They proceeded to score 3 plays later on an insane catch by Austin Hooper. (Pictured above)

Drake made a similar throw to Diggs on the left sideline later in the game, proving how dialed in he is. Sometimes you hear about young QBs who have trouble throwing to their left but you don’t see that with Drake. He can spray it to all fields and it’s a thing of beauty.

The best part? We got 30% of the league together for the game. Ken brought the Peabody crew up to Wilbraham and Dyl made the drive as well. It was good to see the bros and crazy to see the kids playing together – 5 kids ages 4 through 6. We didn’t get after it like we would have in the Southie days, but we had a couple beers and it was great to catch up. Some day we’ll get the full league back together. Some day.

And that wraps up the side-bar-random-thought portion of the writeup. With that, we will move to the GWBL fantasy football portion of the writeup. We‘re officially half way done with the regular season: 7 weeks down, 7 to go. Now is a good time to see where each team is at and what their rest of season prospects may be. Short on time this week so this will be quick. In order of the standings:

Chase is On the Case (Ken): 7-0

Not much to say here, Ken is on a tear. He leads the league in points scored (50 over DMO) and there aren’t any weaknesses on his roster. His team is seemingly rotating big games and picking each other up when certain guys aren’t producing. Ashton Jeanty goes for 6? Quinshon will pick his fellow rookie up and go for 31. Mike Evans gets hurt and puts up a nothing-burger? How abut 38 points from Jamar Chase to make up for it. (Flacco is ridiculous, what an absurd story line.) Ken is probably locked in for playoffs if not 1 win away from it. At this point he’s gotta hope to stay healthy and hope he doesn’t peak too soon.

Tom’s Retirement Tour (Commish): 5-2

My team is in a comfortable spot at 5-2, maybe 2 games from clinching a playoff spot depending on how things fall. It feels a little fraudulent but I’m 4th in points for and 5th in points against. I wouldn’t say it’s “matchup luck”, it’s just Jonathan Taylor. What a beast. This injury to Jayden Daniels has the potential to derail my season though. We’ll see how that goes, this is now his second injury.

King Henry’s Court (DMO): 4-3

A couple of weeks ago I wrote “How is DMO only 1-3?......He has to be due for regression because this doesn’t make sense.

Nail on the head. After a rough start DMO has ripped off 4 straight wins in convincing fashion. In that time he’s averaging 156 a week and has put down two high scoring opponents: Week 5 he beat Lamone 179-157 and in Week 7 he beat Frader 147-142. He’s currently 2nd in points for and is gaining on Peabs. With how his team is set up and the amount of draft steals he has (Javonte, Olave, Ferguson), I can’t imagine any world where this isn’t a playoff team.

The LiGHT SKiNS (Lamone): 4-3

Lamone is firmly in the mix for playoffs and that’s despite the loss of Lamar Jackson for half the season thus far. Lamar should be back soon and he has a pretty favorable schedule coming up. Josh Jacobs provides a consistent presence on the scoreboard and he’s mixing and matching the rest of the team well. If he can get some more consistency from the WR group I think he’s in good shape to make a run at the playoffs. Drake London, Tetairoa McMillan, Michael Pittman and Stefon Diggs is an interesting WR group, but he’s making it work.

Deebo Baggins (Frader): 4-3

Frader’s team is looking strong right now and is a 5 point loss in Week 7 away from being 5-2. While that 5 point loss (142-147) was bad luck, he’s 8th in points against. Can’t complain too much I guess. His team looks a little top heavy, with Drake, Bijan and Skattebo carrying most of the load. That said, he does have the Ohio State duo (Egbuka-Harrison) and the trade market to pick up some slack. Early reports are that he’s in multiple negotiations. Stay tuned.

Brown ^ 2  (Keetz): 4-3

Things were looking bleak after a 1-3 start, but Keetz has ripped off 3 straight wins. This recent one was a statement, a 186 point outburst and the weekly $10 prize. Jahmyr Gibbs has found a new gear and Davante Adams continues to defy Father Time. Arrows are pointed up as he heads into a matchup vs Tieg’s 1-6 team this week.

She Wants the Young Caff (Dyl): 3-4

Dyl got a much needed win in Week 7 and stopped a 3 game slide. It was a convincing win over Tone and he followed it up with a massive trade (see below). He got Kittle back from injury and added Oronde Gadsen off waivers for good measure. The future is looking bright as he heads into a critical matchup with the Light Skins.

Two Joe’s One Kupp (Tone): 2-5

Did tone throw in the towel on the season after the worst two week stretch in recent memory? (Not sure if that’s true but it has to be close.) He seemed to say “no” in the group chat, but does the trade say otherwise?

Tone Gets: Rome Odunze (WR20, 7th round keeper), Harold Fannin (TE10, 8th round keeper), Dyl’s 2026 1st and Dyl’s 2026 5th.

Dyl Gets: Puka Nacua (WR4, 2nd round keeper), David Mongtomery (RB18, 6th round keeper), Tone’s 2026 6th  and Tone’s 2026 9th.

If selling Puka isn’t a “rebuild” move, wouldn’t we have seen more win-now pieces going Tone’s way? Maybe a 2:1 deal where he downgrades from Puka and picks up two plug-and-play guys? Idk.

Assuming this is more of a rebuild move, then I think it’s pretty even. I look at it as Rome and a 1st for Puka and a 6th. Also get some overflow from the rest of the pieces, which favor Tone. I’d take Dyl’s side in the trade because he got one of the best WRs in fantasy, but it’s not a bad move for Tone as he starts to look to 2026. (Look where Ken’s team is right now after selling last year.)

Oshkosh B’JOSH (Kev): 1-6

Rough first half for Kev and he finds himself in the vice-Gabriel position, 1-6 overall. He has a bunch of good players but injuries (Tyreek/Nabers/Bowers) and bad luck have derailed the season. Guess who has the most points against? Shocking. The odd thing is, his team still looks pretty good. Josh Allen, Saquon, Pickens, Metcalf, Dobbins, etc. I think the second half of his season will be better than the first.

I LOVE LAMB (Tieg): 1-6

Last but not least we have Tieg. The 2024 Gabe if the season ended today. He’s definitely had some bad luck with points against (3rd most), but he’s also scored the 2nd fewest points (16 ahead of Tone). Losing Ceedee for a month hurt, but he hasn’t had much injury luck besides that. I think it’s just a bad combination of mediocre and inconsistent play? He just doesn’t have any fantasy superstars this year, all of his guys are below average at their position. I know he’s in trade talks so he might be starting the rebuild soon. (Answer my DM Tieg!!)
