GWBL 2025 SEASON RECAPS – 6th PLACE (DMO)
Tale of the Tape:
Coming in 6th place is King Henry’s Court, owned and managed by Darren Moran. DMO finished with 2,002 points for (2nd most), 1,813 points against (7th most) and a record of 9-5.
Synopsis:
This was a really interesting season for DMO. Almost a reverse shit-sandwich if you will. Bad, then great, then bad. He started off by dropping 3 straight matchups to Kev, Ken and myself. Starting in an 0-3 hole is usually a death sentence and DMO had to be sweating.
Nevertheless, if you looked beyond the win/loss record, you would have seen that DMO was putting up strong performances. He scored 127-136-133 to start things off. Those aren’t elite scores but they’re certainly competitive. Then you’d look at the roster and think “wow this team is a lot better than 0-3”. Sure enough, the team started to show it.
From Week 4 through Week 12 DMO was on a heater. Seventy seven straight sevens at the World Series of Dice (Chappelle Show doot doot Chappelle Show).
“My name’s Leonard Washington…Where I’m From? A little place called none of ya gahtdamn business!” Classic.
Over that 9 week stretch he went 8-1 and averaged about 150 per week. He went over 140 in 6 of 9 (nice) and went over 160 on 3 separate occasions.
He finished the season by alternating wins/losses in Week 13/14. He ended the regular season with the 2nd most points for and a 3rd place seed. His squad scored more points than the #2 seed (Lamone) but missed out on the bye due to having a worse record. This would prove to be fatal.
Just like in the World Series of Dice when the game gets robbed, DMO’s hot stretch came to an abrupt end. He faced the #6 seed Dylan in Round 1 and it wasn’t much of a contest. Dylan went nuclear in Round 1, putting up 177.35. DMO put up an admirable 132, but never stood a chance. Dyl had 6 players go for 20+ and that was all she wrote. While DMO didn’t get nailed with points against during the season (7th), the points against monster jumped up and bit him in the ass during the playoffs.
Signature Win/Loss:
I’ll go with his Week 5 win over Lamone. A high scoring affair that DMO won 179 to 158. A week 5 matchup typically isn’t noteworthy for a team that went 9-5, but in this case it was. This win got DMO to a record of 2-3. Had he lost and dropped to 1-4, there’s no telling how the rest of the season would go. Losing breeds more losing and all of that. Also from an optics perspective, it showed DMO was a serious contender. It’s one thing to win, it’s another to win when your opponent hangs 158 on you.
Highlights were: Baker with 34, JSN with 27 and Javonte with 30.
Miscellaneous Draft Results & Personnel Moves:
DMO had an amazing draft. Sure, he missed on guys like Terry Mclaurin (injury), Alvin Kamara (injury) and TJ Hockenson, but he hit tape measure shots with half of his picks. He started off with Derrick Henry (RB7) and double dipped at RB with Achane in the 2nd (RB6).
At 3.07 he got the WR2 in our scoring, Jaxon Smith Njigba. The third year player broke out in a major way and will be a fantasy mainstay for years to come. He was arguably the most consistent and dominant player in all of fantasy. Over 16 games, he’s scored 16 or more points 14 times. He had one game with 13.6 (boohoo) and only one dud (4.3 in Week 13, harmless). He scored over 20 points 11 times in 16 games. He had 72 or more yards in all but one game. That is astounding.
Baker Mayfield in the 7th was solid (QB12), but Olave in the 9th was a masterpiece. He’s WR6 on the season and may be the fantasy MVP. Finally hit his potential and avoided injury on his way to 100 catches, 1,163 yards and 9 TDs.
Jujuan Jennings in the 11th was a solid pick. Javonte Williams in the 12th was even better. Everyone wrote off Javonte last season. Which was fair because he looked terrible for 2 years in Denver. If he couldn’t get it going in a favorable environment like that, he must be toast right? Wronggg. Javonte enjoyed a career year and is RB11 on the season. About 1350 total yards and 13 TDs for a 12th round pick. So glad I traded him away for pennies in Dynasty last offseason. Smart move.
Last but not least, Jake Ferguson. 14th round pick, TE4, that’s all you need to know.
Keeper, I barely Know Her:
DMO’s keeper this year was a mixed bag. Alvin Kamara (5th round) is currently RB45, which is objectively terrible. But it wasn’t as bad as it seems. From Weeks 1-10 he averaged 12 points per game. He had one disgusting performance (1.9 in week 9) but was otherwise a usable flex asset. Unfortunately for him he essentially missed the rest of the season. Is that all she wrote on Kamara’s career? Regardless of what happens next, Kamara is a fantasy legend. First-team Hall of Fame fantasy football player.
For next year DMO has an embarrassment of options: JSN (3rd), Olave (9th), Jennings (11th), Javonte (12th), Ferguson (14th).
Final Thoughts:
Very good season that ended too soon. DMO was clearly a top 2 or 3 team in the league, he must be frustrated to finish in 6th. But that’s the fantasy playoffs in a nutshell. Every playoff matchup is a coin flip, regardless of what your team looks like. Back to back strong seasons for DMO, maybe he can get his first title next year.
