GWBL 2025 SEASON RECAPS – THE GABE (TONE)

GWBL 2025 SEASON RECAPS – THE GABE (TONE)

Tale of the Tape:

Coming in last place, the 2025 GABE is Two Joe’s One Kupp, owned and managed by Alex Cottone. Tone finished with 1,638 points for (10th/least), 1,941 points against (3rd most) and a record of 3-11.

Synopsis:

Yikes what a painful season for Tone. It started out fairly promising and he was 2-1 through three weeks. It collapsed like a poorly constructed pillow fort after that though (Dad references for the win). Tone would lose 10 matchups in a row from Weeks 4-13, finishing with fewer than 100 points in 4 of those 10 matchups. During that losing streak he averaged 105 points per game and had a low score of 65.85 in Week 13.

I will mention that Tone ended the season on a high note. He took my team to pound town in Week 14, posting a 188-118 win over the eventual champ (I promise I will try to limit references to that as we go through these…..maybe). He then put up 130+ in each of his consolation ladder matchups, showing some fight.

Alas, the late season surge was not enough. In addition to the carnal shame that comes with being labeled THE GABE, Tone has to pay the $75 GABE penalty. (*65 since I haven’t paid him the 10 I owe him for his Week 14 high score. Get venmo tone!)

Signature Win/Loss:

There were a few bad L’s, but I’ll point to Week 8 when he lost to DMO 124.88-128.38. A loss by 3.5 is excruciating and it was Tone’s 5th loss in a row. It dropped him to 2-6, an insurmountable hole to climb out of.  DMO’s D/ST (BUF) put up 19, which really made a difference.

Miscellaneous Draft Results & Personnel Moves:

In hindsight, the draft is where this season went wrong. Tone didn’t have a 1st or 3rd pick due to 2024 trades and he wasn’t able to make the most of the selections he did have. Puka was a home run in Round 2 (#16 overall, a steal thanks to Matt Stafford’s phantom preseason injury), but aside from that it’s a crime scene. A few of the lowlights: Joe Burrow in Round 3 (injury), Pacheco in Round 5 (bust), David Montgomery in Round 6 (TD regression), and Zay Flowers in Round 6 (Lamar injuries). Waddle in Round 7 was a nice pick, but he’s so inconsistent and was eventually traded away to Frader. The rest of the draft isn’t really worth mentioning aside from….

Cam Skattebo. Tone drafted him in the 10th round but dropped him 10 days later. Frader scooped him and enjoyed the breakout before the injury trashed his season. Even with the injury he may have been a nice keeper option in Round 10 next year. Too quick on the trigger there.

We already went over the trades, but Tone set himself up nicely for next year with some draft capital. He’s got two 1sts, two 3rds and two 5ths for next year.

Keeper, I barely Know Her:

Tone’s keeper was Chuba Hubbard in the 13th round. It appeared to be a steal, but injury and Rico Dowdle ruined Chuba’s season. He’s currently RB42. Not crippling given the draft cost but doesn’t help.

Who could he keep next year? Shockingly he dropped Harold Fannin on Keeper Deadline Day (Nov 13th), so that’s out. (He did add him later on but we have to respect the holding period requirements.) It could be Michael Wilson – ironically Tone dropped Fannin for him. 8th round keeper cost. Rome Odunze could be another option in the 7th round, although his season’s been derailed by injury.

Final Thoughts:

I hate to pile on but this may be the worst season in league history. The 1,638 points Tone scored is by far the lowest total we’ve seen in three years since moving to Sleeper. We haven’t seen a point total this low since 2021 when we didn’t have full PPR and didn’t have the extra flex. We’ve seen a few 3-11 seasons but it’s fairly rare.

Alright alright I’ll stop now, forgive me for my brutishness. Tough seasons happen to everyone and I have no doubt Tone will be a factor next year. He’s got some nice draft capital and motivation on his side.
